TODAY'S QUESTION:
Do you judge a book by its cover?

Hello, my name is Isalys and I'm a book cover whore! LOL
I think we all judge a book by it's cover - even if we shouldn't, but should and won't aren't the same thing. We rely on a book's cover to attract our attention. With thousands of books lining the shelves, a book's cover should say, "Hey, just look at me, now pick me up!" Otherwise, you'll just walk on by and may miss out on reading a great book.

This is what leads me to believe that the cover art of a book is nearly as important as the content itself. Truthfully, a well-established author who has a strong fan base could probably put a turd on the cover and someone will read their books. However, if you're a new author, you really need to rely on your book's cover art as part of your marketing strategy.

I have two examples:

First, The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich. We've heard about how funny these books are, but the truth is that I haven't read them because the cover art is, in my opinion, awful. It seems more of a deterrent than a lure. They weren't something that I was excited about adding to my shelf. However, I will say that Janet makes them memorable with the lime green and highlighter color action she's got going on, lol! Although I will say they've gotten better :)~

Second, Fallen by Lauren Kate. Now that is a gorgeous cover! I was blown away by how simply beautiful it was. I actually bought it at full price {hard cover} even though I already had an ARC. This book NEEDED to be on my shelf. And the paper it's printed on is deliciously soft...it's like suede *ahhhh*

And the cover to its sequel is just as amazing!

Book ♥ Soulmates in October!

Good morning to all our lovely creepy crawlies :)

So it's September and as quickly as time has been going by, October will be here before we know it and so will Halloween! *Woooo*



Since this is our very favorite time of year, we want to do something special so we've decided that Book ♥ Soulmates is going to be ALL about Halloween for the month of October.

Here's what we're working on:
1) We're going to have a new Halloween "look" to be premiered on Oct 1.
2) We're going to focus on reading and reviewing PNR, UF & Sci-Fi books!
3) We're going to be hosting giveaways for all kinds of Halloween goodies (more than just books!)
4) We're going to be working with our friend Natasha over at Bookmark Your Thoughts on some fun Halloween inspired features and reviews.

But now we need YOUR help!

As bloggers, our first priority is to keep you guys happy & impressed so we want YOU, our loyal followers, to tell us what else you'd like to see on on Book ♥ Soulmates. What are your other deeeeliciously creepy ideas?

Good morning my lovelies ♥

I am oh-so-excited because I have been invited to be a Guest Reviewer/Blogger at the awesomesauce blog Obsessed!

Do you guys know Bella? If you don't, then you should! She's CRAZY funny, WICKED cool and has GREAT taste in books {paranormal, urban fantasy & the like}!

She is working on her own writing project so to help take a bit of the review slack off her, she brought me on board :) Woot!! She'll be featuring my PNR reviews on her blog every THURSDAY!

She asked me to introduce myself to her followers as well as answer a few interesting dystopian inspired questions in honor of the release of Mockingjay...which I in turn challenged her to answer as well.
