Blog Soulmate: Not Now...I'm Reading!

One day, Vanessa and I got to talking about how many really great blogs we follow that are owned by super great bloggers and how we wish the world knew about these awesome peeps...so we came up with a way to do just that.

Starting today, every week we will select a new BLOG SOULMATE!

This is our way of telling them that, "Hey, we think you're cool and we love your blog and we want the world to know this!"

{Note: This is an exclusive award and not intended for being passed on. However, our chosen blog soulmates are welcomed to do a post on their own blogs letting their followers know that, well, we like them!}

Our first BLOG SOULMATE Award for this week goes to:

Jen D. from Not Now...I'm Reading!

My button

We'd like for you guys to get to know Jen a little better, so we asked her a few questions.
So here's a peek inside Jen's mind:

How long have you been blogging?
So technically my first post went up on January 1, 2010, but my posting was so sporadic that I consider January 1, 2011 to be my actual start date. It's when I decided to buckle down and do this blogging thing for real.

What are your blogging or reading goals?
I'm a simple girl ya'll. If I can share some of my favorite reads and make some friends along the way then I'm a happy camper. This, for me, is a creative outlet more than anything so if you guys are diggin' my randomness and decide to try some of the books I post about then I feel like my job here is done.

Fave genres and books?
Favorite genres hands down are Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, but I read a little of everything and am always up for trying something new. Favorite books is a little harder to answer. There's just too many that are near and dear to my heart.

What are some of your hobbies other than reading?
Some of my other hobbies include exercising (at least I'm trying to make it a hobby although lord knows it takes every ounce of my will power to keep at it), listening to music and picking the most inopportune moments to bust a move. What? I'm being for real. Once the beat of a song catches my attention there's no stopping me. I've been known to bust out in random acts of dance at home, at work, at the store, in the car...

Tell us something about you NON-book related.
Let's see...non-book related. Okay I'm going to put two things out there and to hell with the consequences. *deep breath and exhale* I have a bad ass collection of Marvel & DC comic cards. *blank stares* Um, okay think baseball cards but, with superheroes instead. I was obsessed with superheroes growing up. My sister, cousin and I collected them growing up but, managed to lose them over the years. So I decided to start collecting them again. I have 3 or 4 complete sets and I heart them with my entire being. Another thing I heart? My crazy makeup collection. I went through this phase where I was 110% sure that I wanted to be a makeup artist. It didn't really pan out but, I have tons of beautiful makeup to show for it. The ironic part is I don't wear much of it on the regular. Go figure. I never said I didn't have quirks.

Come to think of it I'm quite the walking contradiction...

So there you have it folks, Jen in a nutshell!  We love this girl and we hope that you'll swing by her blog, check out all her cool posts and maybe be enticed to follow her too!

PS: She has a brand spankin' new layout that was designed exclusively for her as a RAK courtesy of Isalys :)

April is Autism Awareness Month

Good morning!

As some of you may know, April is Autism Awareness month. In honor of this worthy cause, Cynni from Uniflame Creates has started the Autism Awareness Reading Challenge.

Because we've been fortunate to have so many great followers who visit our blog, we wanted to do our part and help spread the word about this awesome challenge!

Here are the deets:

The Rules:
- The challenge runs from April 1st till April 30th.
- You only have to read one book that has something to do with autism.
- Write your thoughts on a blog post and leave the link in a comment on the original post (linked above).  {Cynni will edit this post throughout the challenge to add the links.}
- Sharing this post is appreciated because Cynni would like to reach as many people as possible and hope that they will participate :)

Recommendations:
- A Friend Like Henry by Nuala Gardner. About how a Golden Retriever changed a boy with autism.
- With the Light by Keiko Tobe. This is a very thick manga for adults that covers the challenges a family faces when their son is autistic. It also tells a bit about how this is handled in Japanese society.
- The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon. An enjoyable novel with an autistic boy as narrator.

Of course there are plenty more books on the subject but these are some books that Cynni has read and enjoyed.

Mid-April there will also be an autism related giveaway, but more on that later :)
So if you are interested in participating, please head over to Uniflame Creates and sign-up.  Spreading the word about this challenge is also appreciated :)

Have a super day kids!
