US vs UK Cover Battle 11.7.13

Those of you who've been with us for a long time recall that we used to participate in a meme called US vs. UK where we pinned the US and UK covers of the same title against each other. We loved this feature but it slowly fell by the wayside.  We decided it was time to bring it back and hey, why not?  We're all still covers whores!

Our first, comeback, US vs UK Cover Battle is one of this week's new releases was Daylighters (The Morganville Vampires #15) by Rachel Caine.

Isalys: So what do you girls think? Who do you give your point to?
Vanessa: Damn. I think this is the first time I'm going for UK :P
Stephanie: I like UK version better too. :)
Taryn: Definitely UK!
Vanessa: The other one looks too plain and I like the red & black colors better :)
Jen: UK!
Vanessa: I also noticed that they wrote "Book 15" on the UK version. Why cant they do that for the US version?!
Stephanie: That is one of my biggest pet peeves not having the book number on the cover. Grrrr. Really grinds my gears. :D
Isalys: I'm going with UK. The US cover isn't bad but there's nothing about it that tells you it's a vampire story. The UK version is much more gothic and edgy! I actually think they should combine the two covers. The book is called Daylighters so I can see where the US version was going w/ the sunlight.

What do you guys think?  Which cover do you guys like?

  1. I think I like the US cover. The UK cover is a bit much some how.

  2. Not a fan of either really, but US wins cos UK is too much and too little

  3. I prefer the UK cover, but the best thing for me is that it matches every single book in the series - I have a proper set that looks gorgeous on my shelves. Hurrah!

  4. Definitely the UK version! The US version looks like it could be a contemporary, or any genre really. And not even so much YA. The UL version look speaks much better to the audience.

  5. Definitely the UK version. The US version looks too plain to me. Like a book I probably wouldn't even take a second look at...

  6. I think that the UK cover is definitely the best of the two. It stands out as being of the genre it is, as opposed to the US cover, which looks like a contemporary novel.

  7. Exactly! The U.S. cover is very clean & pretty but if I saw it on a shelf, without knowing anything about it, I'd think it was a contemporary! I don't think it suits the series.

  8. I feel like for this dynamic book, it needs a dynamic cover. The single picture of the girl with no embellishments doesn't live up to the story.

  9. I love the UK cover, if I saw the US cover sitting on a shelf somewhere I probably wouldn't even give it a second glance

  10. The UK version is way better! The US one just seems so plain and just like a lot of other book covers out there.
