TODAY'S QUESTION on CRAZY-FOR-BOOKS:
If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?

I try to not start a series out of sequence for the same reasons that Jen mentioned in her post; I'd hate to miss out on the backstory or on important details. However, I'd be a "liar-liar-pants-on-fire" if I said that I've never done that...although in my defense, it was entirely unintentional, lol. I once read an entire series backwards. Literally, from book 4 to 3 to 2 and finally, to 1. How very Pulp Fiction of me, LOL!! Luckily, I was able to read & enjoy them out of sequence without really hurting the storyline.
TODAY'S QUESTION on PARAJUNKEE:
TODAY'S QUESTION on PARAJUNKEE:
What is my usual monthly book budget?
In my case, the question should be what is my WEEKLY book budget? Ha! Yes, I can honestly say that I get new books nearly every week. Most of you know of our Wednesday night gatherings at Barnes & Noble so it's on a very rare night when I don't go home with a new book (such as the case with this past Wednesday).
Random comment: I swear that Hell must have gotten a cold front that night because the bitch that works at the Starbucks was actually semi-friendly to my friend Yami and NONE of us bought books that night. Miracle of all miracles, I tell ya!! LOL
Well kiddos, you have yourselves a SPLENDID weekend!!

ReplyDeleteMy book budget is $0! I'm a poor college student, so I only borrow books from the library or read in Barnes and Noble while hogging their air conditioning. :)
Kristina @ Frazzled Book Nommer. Have a good weekend! <3
This pretty much seems like the standard answer! Even with Kelley Armstrong's series I had to read it all in order even though she wrote it so that wasn't necessary!

Happy Friday!
New follower from the hop :-)
ReplyDeleteI try to always read series in order - I figure they're numbered for a reason!
And I'm sure I spend way too much money each month on books, though I try to limit myself to 1 new book a week!
Have a good weekend!

I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
ReplyDeletedoesn't run chronologically.
That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.
On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.
Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!
