Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Official Poster!

In theaters Friday, July 17

Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts turns out to be quite the exciting year. First off is the arrival of a new teacher at Hogwarts, Horace Slughorn, who is a bit more useful to Harry than he realizes. Next, Harry obtains a Potions book which used to be belong to the very mysterious Half-Blood Prince. Harry finds that the Half-Blood Prince's ancient scribbles are written along the margins of almost every page, giving Harry advice on how to improve greatly on his Potions work, and also teaching him a few helpful (and dangerous) spells along the way. Amidst this, Harry is starting private lessons with Professor Dumbledore, during which Harry learns the dark secrets of Voldemort's past, hoping that they could use these secrets to find a way to defeat him.Harry's year gets even more stressful with the suspicious actions of Draco Malfoy, who has been sneaking around the school doing, so Harry assumes, Voldemort's bidding. Harry quickly becomes determined, and slightly obsessed, to find out exactly what Malfoy has been up to and putting and end to it. Yet, during this time, Harry and his friends go through daily life, busy with school work, Quidditch, (in which Harry has been made captain of the team) and of course, romance. Ron has found a new girlfriend, Lavender Brown, a perky (if not obnoxious) Gryffindor student, and Hermione is not happy about it. Ron and Hermione's friendship takes a toll throughout the school year and Harry, as usual, is stuck in the middle. Harry, meanwhile, is facing a romantic dilemma of his own: he realizes he is falling for his best friend's sister, Ginny Weasley, who is unfortunately dating Harry's classmate, Dean Thomas. Harry's pining for Ginny and Ron's hilarious relationship with Lavender give this story a large dose of reality.Throughout all the school drama, however, the obvious darkness of Voldemort's impending rise to power is always apparent. The incredible action-packed climax is sure to leave the audience stunned and, inevitably, prove that you shouldn't trust everybody who you think is good and also prove that not everyone can manage to survive.

Blog Tour: Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore

Hint of Wicked was a rollercoaster! Jennifer Haymore takes you on a ride through a particularly tumultuous time in Sophie, the Duchess of Calton's life. After mourning the loss of her husband for over 6 years, she decides to move on and marries her deceased husband's friend & heir, Tristan. During a night of passion with Tristan, Garrett returns (unannounced) demanding his life and his wife back! However, Tristan will not let her go without a fight (he was tired of loving her from afar)! Now Sophie is stuck between her two husbands; her first love and her new love. What's a girl to do?

I really enjoyed getting to know Sophie's character. She was loving and endearing, but incredibly strong and protective of those she loves. I am a huge fan of period pieces and I especially love it with the heroine isn't just another piece of decoration. The plot was complicated and intricate enough to keep you enveloped in the story. One of my favorite features of this book was that Jennifer jumped right into it without wasting too much time in setting up the storyline. At first, I was concerned that the story would lose steam along the way and to my pleasant surprise it didn't...it was a definite page-turner! It doesn't wrap up until the very end and even then, it leaves enough of an opening for the sequel (that I'll now be waiting anxiously for come April 2010).

In addition, this book also offers quite a bit of heat too! I think Jennifer did a great job at narrating the love scenes without getting too raunchy. It was just enough to make you blush :)

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good, well-written historical romance!

Review: Hunted (House of Night #5) by P.C. Cast

Hunted is the 5th and most recent installment of the House of Night series by P.C. Cast.

NOTE: This review contains some spoilers!

I've been a fan of this series for a while now. I picked it up on a whim one day at Barnes & Noble and was instantly hooked. In this book, Zoey's love life becomes increasingly complicated while the world around her seems to fall at Kalona's feet. To be perfectly honest, Zoey's indecision about the men in her life is starting to get a little tiresome. I want her character to be happy and in love (at least for a little while). Erik is, as far as I'm concerned, the most logical choice...and he's smokin' hot. However, his little possessive rant definitely cost him some points. She has history with Heath, but he's just not right or mature enough for her. As for Stark, there definitely seems to be some chemistry there, but I would like to get to know him a little better still.

In terms of the other characters, Aphrodite has become one of my favorites. She has evolved and grown the most which has been really great to read about...and I love that she knows how to crack the whip! Her imprint with Stevie Rae had me laughing out loud. It definitely threw us for a loop. It was also interesting to learn more about the red fledgings and see Stevie Rae becoming more & more herself again. Although Stevie Rae seems to be hiding something and I'm very curious to see what she has up her sleeve.

I don't want to delve too deeply into the situation with Kalona and Neferet because I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't read this far into the series. However, I will say that during Zoey's time with the red fledgings, she discovers that one of them is writing prophetic poetry. This leads to a pretty serious twist in the story and she finds herself back at the House of Night where they uncover more of Kalona and Neferet's plot to change the world.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. Some things were resolved and some were left open for the next installment which I'm really looking forward to. This book is fast-paced and I practically read it overnight. I will say this for P.C. Cast, she definitely knows how to keep you hooked because I'm anxious to find out how Zoey will handle all of this in "Tempted" =)

I give this book ★ ★ ★ ★

1st book up for grabs:

I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti by Giullia Melucci

Synopsis: From failure to fusilli, this deliciously hilarious read tells the story of Giulia Melucci's fizzled romances and the mouth-watering recipes she used to seduce her men, smooth over the lumps, and console herself when the relationships flamed out.

From an affectionate alcoholic, to the classic New York City commitment-phobe, to a hipster aged past his sell date, and not one, but two novelists with Peter Pan complexes, Giulia has cooked for them all. She suffers each disappointment with resolute cheer (after a few tears) and a bowl of pastina (recipe included) and has lived to tell the tale so that other women may go out, hopefully with greater success, and if that's not possible, at least have something good to eat.

Peppered throughout Giulia's delightful and often poignant remembrances are fond recollections of her mother's cooking, the recipes she learned from her, and many she invented on her own inspired by the men in her life. Readers will howl at Giulia's boyfriend-littered past and swoon over her irresistable culinary creations.

We have 5 books to give away!

He was the most pitiful kindergartner, the least spirited summer camper, and dateless for prom. In fact, there's nary an event from his youth that couldn't use improvement. If only he could do them all over a few decades later, with an adult's wisdom, perspective, and giant-like height...

In the spirit of cult film classics like Billy Madison and Wet Hot American Summer, in DO-OVER! Hemley reencounters paper mache, revisits his childhood home, and finally attends the prom--bringing readers the thrill of recapturing a misspent youth and discovering what's most important: simple pleasures, second chances, and the forgotten joys of recess.

Wicked Wednesday Giveaways

Giveaway May 13 - May 27

1st book up for grabs:

Testimony by Anita Shreve

Synopsis: At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices--those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal--that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Writing with a pace and intensity surpassing even her own greatest work, Anita Shreve delivers in TESTIMONY a gripping emotional drama with the impact of a thriller. No one more compellingly explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, the needs and fears that drive ordinary men and women into intolerable dilemmas, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions.

We have 5 copies to give away!

2nd book up for grabs:

Made in the U.S.A by Billie Letts

Synopsis: Luttie McFee's history has taught her to avoid attachments...to people, to places, and to almost everything. With her mother long dead and her father long gone to find his fortune in Las Vegas, 15-year-old Luttie lives in the god-forsaken town of Yankton, South Dakota with her nine-year-old brother, Fate, and Floy Satterfield, the 300-pound ex-girlfriend of her father. While Lutie shoplifts for kicks, Fate spends most of his time reading, watching weird TV shows and worrying about global warming and the endangerment of pandas. As if their life is not dismal enough, one day, while shopping in their local Wal-Mart, Floy keels over and the two motherless kids are suddenly faced with the choice of becoming wards of the state or hightailing it out of town in Floy's old Pontiac. Choosing the latter, they head off to Las Vegas in search of a father who has no known address, no phone number and, clearly, no interest in the kids he left behind.

MADE IN THE USA is the alternately heartbreaking and life-affirming story of two gutsy children who must discover how cruel, unfair and frightening the world is before they come to a place they can finally call home.

GOOD LUCK!

Review - Sookie: Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris

Isalys's Review:
Charlaine Harris definitely kept us intrigued and occupied with this latest installment of the Sookie Stackhouse Series. There was enough action and mystery throughout the entire book to keep you engrossed…and of course, Sookie is smack in the middle of it all!

In this book, the Weres decide to follow the Vampires lead and publicly announce their existence to the world’s shock and dismay (and occasional excitement) and soon, one of their own turn up dead. However, the Weres aren’t the only ones with problems. The Fairies are back and with a vengeance. There is a serious battle brewing in Faery (their world) and Sookie becomes a target because of her relationship with Niall, the Fairy Prince. The only ones that have any relative peace are the Vampires…and even they aren’t clear of the danger. Because of the ever present danger that Sookie finds herself in, she ends up calling favors from both the Vamps and the Weres, but it comes at a heavy price when lives are lost.

I genuinely enjoyed this latest book more than the last (Sookie: From Dead to Worse). I am a big fan of Eric so I was glad to have him back in Sookie’s life, even though their relationship became increasingly complicated. I loved that you not only learned more about his own human past, but you learned more about the Fairies as well. My only criticism is that there may have been too much going on at times and it became a little difficult to follow. Overall, I really enjoyed this book (as I do the entire series) and am ready for book 10…based on the way this one ended, I’m sure it’s on the horizon!

I give this book ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Vanessa's Review:
Book 9 of the Sookie Stackhouse series is, in my opinion, one of the best in the series.
I absolutely LOVE how Eric and Sookie's "ship" (relationship/friendship) has changed in a suprising way! There's a hot and steamy scene involving Sookie and ... (I'll never tell!) I think it's GREAT that Bill is still there trying to save Sookie's life. Even though I'm personally a little upset at him for some of the actions he's taken in the previous books, I can't seem to stop sighing everytime he calls her sweetheart and vows to protect her even if it costs him his life! There's a line in the book where he says, "Sweetheart, I have always loved you and I will be proud to die in your service". **Sigh** Does the fact that I sigh for both Eric AND Bill make me a fangbanger? Hmmm...? Now the REAL question is, does BILL actually die?!

I'm a little surprised at Charlaine Harris for having Sookie reflect on her decisions and how they affect her Christianity. She hasn't really done that before. There's a part where Sookie says to herself, "That made me a bad Christian, I realized. Though I knew I wasn't a deep theological thinker, I sometimes wondered if crisis moments in my life hadn't come down to two choices: be a bad Christian or die? I'd chosen life everytime." I think it's fine for Sookie to have these thoughts, after all, she IS human and she IS a Christian, but I really hope Charlaine doensn't go all "Anne Rice" on us and start writing only Christian books!

Even though Charlaine tied up some loose ends from the previous books, she left a whole bunch of new ones! I cannot wait to read the tenth book! I sure hope we don't have to wait a whole year for the next one!!
