Reading Environment

Last week, the very witty & clever, Lori from Escape Between The Pages asked us the following questions...

Do you have a place where you like to go to read? You know some place quiet or out of the way? Do you just plop down and open a book and begin reading or do you make an event of it?

Step 1- I put on my jammies, wash my face, brush my teeth, pee and get myself all situated!! When I sit to read, I'm down for the count so I don't want to have to get up for anything. My husband goes to bed a lot earlier than I do so I try to get ready for bed early so that when I'm done reading, I can go straight to bed w/ minimal noise. I'm considerate like that ;o)

Step 1 - I prefer reading at night after all my work for the day is done. I like to bathe first and get comfy :)

Step 2 - I make sure my dog is walked. If I don't want to get up to pee, I sure as hell don't want to get up to let HIM pee!

Step 2 - I grab my favorite blanket and some tea and head on over to my bed! The most comfortable place everrrr!

Step 3 - If I'm feeling a little peckish, then I'll grab a snack! My hands-down, absolute fave is Oreos and an ice-cold glass of milk *yum*

Step 3 - I like to eat sunflower seeds while I'm reading so I'll usually have some with me (making sure not to dirty the pages!)

Step 4 - Grab my blanket and dog and curl up on the couch. I love to have the house peaceful and quiet - that way I get the most out of my time with my book =)

Step 4 - I make sure everyone in my household knows I'll be "busy" and do not want to be disturbed! I settle down with my book and favorite book mark (which currently happens to be Alice in Wonderland) and stay put 'til I can't hold my pee any longer!

Isalys:
My USUAL nighttime spot to read is on my blue couch in the living room. The couch is uber comfy, I have the lamp next to me and it's peaceful. My chihuahua, Toby will usually curl up with me and hang out until it's bed time. {He's my baby!}

I usually sit to read around 9 PM and will stay there til I can't keep my eyes open anymore. I'll sneak in a chapter here and there during the day, especially during lunch...but nighttime is really the best time for me. I can have the night all to myself without being distracted which is exactly how I like it :)

However, during Summer I love to lounge in my backyard. I'll chill on my chaise lounge with my book on my lap and maybe a glass of iced tea enjoying the sound of the wind rustling the palm trees.
**Oh the joys of living in Florida**

{That's my other dog, Lady in the pic next to my feet. She lovessss to be outside!}

So, how about it folks? Do you have a special reading environment? What is it like? Do you have any kind of reading rituals too? Please tell us, we all really want to know.

  1. well, my fave of all faves would be my bed. My next fave would be poolside in the summer, ya know... chillin' in the backyard on a lounge chair.

    Other than that, I'll read anywhere, anytime!

  2. @Jeanne ~ That's a really good point...I totally forgot about that, lol. When Summer rolls around and it doesn't get dark until like 8PM, I'll sit on my chaise lounge in the yard w/ my book & some tea :) Loveee it there!

    (I'm going to have to edit the post now, lol)

  3. Aww, I love this post! Now I want to put on my pajamas and grab my book, though it's only 5:00! lol. My favorite place to read is in the corner of my couch. That's also where I blog and am currently sitting haha. Isalys - your dog is so cute!

  4. Fun post! Having a favorite place just makes a book even better, I think.
