Fall 2011 Release: Tris & Izzie

You guys...can I just tell you guys how excited I am about this book?

{To be released October 2011}

For one, the cover is just FABULOUS ♥ Seriously, look at all it's gorgeousness.  It just radiates warmth!!

And two, I just realized that this story is a modern YA version of Tristan & Isolde.  How friggin' cool is that?

Why am I so excited about this?  Well, I will tell you :)
It's because my real name is not Isalys - that is my online alias.
My REAL birth name is Isolda.
(I guess the -a ending gives it a Spanish ring!)

The name Isolda has been in my family since the 1930's starting with my grandma.  My grandma, mom and I are all named Isolda, but have different middle names :)  Cute, eh?

When I was little, I honestly HATED the name Isolda because EVERYONE mispronounced it.  I'm talking massacre here!  It wasn't until I became much older that I began to appreciate where the name came from and how special it is that it's been in my family for so long.

Show of hands, who's familiar with the story of Tristan & Isolde?
(Ok, so I can't actually see you but I'll tell you anyway.)
The legend of Tristan & Isolde is an influential romance and tragedy, retold in numerous sources with as many variations. The tragic story is of the adulterous love between the Cornish knight Tristan (Tristram) and the Irish princess Iseult (Isolde, Yseult, etc.). The narrative predates and most likely influenced the Arthurian romance of Lancelot & Guinevere, and has had a substantial impact on Western art, the idea of romantic love and literature since it first appeared in the 12th century. While the details of the story differ from one author to another, the overall plot structure remains much the same.
The true origins are uncertain with the story having connections to Celtic/Irish, Welsh, French and English cultures.  It was in the 19th century that a German composer turned it into an opera.

If you wanna learn more about them, you can find them on Wikipedia.
TimelessMyths is another cool site with all kinds of info on Tristan & Isolde.

I'm so glad that I grew to appreciate my name and that I can now say how cool it is that my name has such a long & interesting history.  Who knows...maybe one day there will be and Isolda the 4th in my family  *wink*

  4. When I spotted this book yesterday, I was captivated by the cover but had no idea what it was about. The cover is truly stunning!! I love everything about it. I'm a total sucker for Autumn colors!

Then today, I noticed the blurb and saw that it was a modern take on Tristan & Isolde, saw the title "Tris & Izzie" and was like DUH!! lol

I can't wait to add this to my collection.

And thank you for the sweet words. It took me a looong time to realize how cool my name really is. Just ask my mom, lol.

  5. I need that book! Love Tristan and Isolde remakes. First heard of the tale when I watched the movie and then bought the soundtrack b/c I loved the music. Since then I've seen and read a couple of things online about the origins. Love it! Need the book! And out of the 3 Isolda's in your family, I've met 2 of them and well... Isolda's rock in my book :D

  11. That cover is stunning! Just love it. I'm a bit mixed for the movie "Tristan and Isolde". The 1st half I loved, the second half I didn't care much for. So I'm a bit iffy on if I'll give this book a chance, because if its anything like the movie I'll just end up disapointed. :(

I do love the cover though. :)
