Full Steampunk Ahead Challenge!

ALL ABOARD!! FULL STEAMPUNK AHEAD! This year we thought we'd do something a little different. Seeing as Steampunk is pretty new to us we thought it'd be fun to challenge ourselves as well as you guys! I'm adding my GoodReads LIST of Steampunk books as a guide. There are close to 200 books!

There will be prizes throughout the year. The months of the prizes will be chosen at random - you know, to keep things interesting, hehe. The prizes won't just be books… they can be anything from Bookmarks, to Giftcards, and possibly, if we're feeling frisky, maybe even a book tote! Who knows what the year may bring!

To power up your Steampunk engine, check out this super cool & informative site!

  1. What exactly is Steampunk? I have never heard of it. From your goodreads list there are a few books I have read or plan on reading. But was wondering where you find all the books??

  3. What do you mean by where do you find all the books? On Goodreads?

  4. Do crossovers count? Like, I'm participating in the 2011 eBook challenge, so if I read a steampunk eBook, can I list it on both?

  8. This is going to be fun, I'll definitely be looking at the recommended titles and hope you'll add Pax Britannia in there. Its a pretty good series by Abaddon Press.

  9. Since I discovered Steampunk, seems I can't get enough. I tip my hat to Chine Mieville... PERDIDO STREET STATION is vying for first place in my all-time favorite book category, but IMAJICA, by Clive Barker, is putting up the good fight. Great idea for the new year.

  15. I have often considered participating in reading challenges but have never actually done it. I decided to participate in this one because it seems low pressure and completely doable and the genre is fascinating.

  19. Oh I love Steampunk books. Sadly though, they are very hard to find at libraries and book swap sites. I have several on my Paperback wish list. If I can get my hands on some I will let you know. Can't promise ten but there are at least three I want to read this year. Provided I get through my TBR challenge first.

  27. This couldn't be better... I 'discovered' steampunk when I read Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. It was a most impressive read. Then I found out that The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling is now considered to be early steampunk, another impressive read. I was planning on reading all the steampunk I could cram on my Kindle anyway, so thanks for coming up with this most appropriate challenge. I wish I had saved The Scar, by China Mieville, and the first three books in the Parasol Protectorate for this challenge. I don't suppose I can cheat and use them anyway. :)

  28. I signed up, and this is definitely going to be a challenge. However, I did just finish reading a short story collection that contained a lot of steampunk, so I guess I have at least one done.
