Full Steampunk Ahead Challenge!

ALL ABOARD!! FULL STEAMPUNK AHEAD! This year we thought we'd do something a little different. Seeing as Steampunk is pretty new to us we thought it'd be fun to challenge ourselves as well as you guys! I'm adding my GoodReads LIST of Steampunk books as a guide. There are close to 200 books!

There will be prizes throughout the year. The months of the prizes will be chosen at random - you know, to keep things interesting, hehe. The prizes won't just be books… they can be anything from Bookmarks, to Giftcards, and possibly, if we're feeling frisky, maybe even a book tote! Who knows what the year may bring!

  1. What exactly is Steampunk? I have never heard of it. From your goodreads list there are a few books I have read or plan on reading. But was wondering where you find all the books??

  2. Hi! I've posted a link on the post {thanks to this question} but I'll post it here as well!

    Good Luck! :P

  3. What do you mean by where do you find all the books? On Goodreads?

  4. Do crossovers count? Like, I'm participating in the 2011 eBook challenge, so if I read a steampunk eBook, can I list it on both?

  5. Oh I'm totally in girls, I will wrap up my post later!!!

  6. SWEET!! I love this challenge...Ive been needing a readon to get all steampunky..:)

  7. I am new to this genre but have a lot on my list to read so I thought I would take up the challenge

  8. This is going to be fun, I'll definitely be looking at the recommended titles and hope you'll add Pax Britannia in there. Its a pretty good series by Abaddon Press.

  9. Since I discovered Steampunk, seems I can't get enough. I tip my hat to Chine Mieville... PERDIDO STREET STATION is vying for first place in my all-time favorite book category, but IMAJICA, by Clive Barker, is putting up the good fight. Great idea for the new year.

  12. I have never read a Steampunk book. I am going to try to read at least 24 books!! Happy Holidays everyone!!!!

  13. Excited, this will motivate me to actually write a review with all the notes I take!

    S. Lilly

  14. I've never actually heard of this genre until I stumbled across this challenge, but I've read several of the book descriptions and I'm willing to give it a try! :-)

  15. I have often considered participating in reading challenges but have never actually done it. I decided to participate in this one because it seems low pressure and completely doable and the genre is fascinating.

  16. This will be my first challenge! I am excited. I got 3 Steampunk books for Christmas...so I have a head start!

  17. This is so cool! I've been wanting to read more steampunk, so this gives me an excuse.:)

  18. This is going to be my first challenge :)

(And now I am going to brush up my knowledge about writing reviews in English^^)

  19. Oh I love Steampunk books. Sadly though, they are very hard to find at libraries and book swap sites. I have several on my Paperback wish list. If I can get my hands on some I will let you know. Can't promise ten but there are at least three I want to read this year. Provided I get through my TBR challenge first.

  20. I have quite a few steampunk books on my wishlist for 2011, so this challenge is perfect!!

    Jennifer (An Abundance of Books)

  21. @Almybnennr: Yes! Crossovers absolutely count! :D

    @Graphimadness &

  25. Hi Julie!

I've created a shelf on Goodreads for
STEAMPUNK BOOKS. Hope it helps :)

If you have any more questions please feel free leave a comment or email me: Twerd413 [@] gmail dot com

    Thanks for joining!!
    Good luck!!

  26. This genre sounds like something I would love... what better way to get into it than by joining a challenge? Looking forward to the adventure!

  27. This couldn't be better... I 'discovered' steampunk when I read Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. It was a most impressive read. Then I found out that The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling is now considered to be early steampunk, another impressive read. I was planning on reading all the steampunk I could cram on my Kindle anyway, so thanks for coming up with this most appropriate challenge. I wish I had saved The Scar, by China Mieville, and the first three books in the Parasol Protectorate for this challenge. I don't suppose I can cheat and use them anyway. :)

  28. I signed up, and this is definitely going to be a challenge. However, I did just finish reading a short story collection that contained a lot of steampunk, so I guess I have at least one done.

  29. Great challenge and great blog! Drop by and say hi if you get chance!

  30. Since I came about and started a Steampunkish blog I've noticed more and more people getting involved with the genre. This is the third or fourth Steampunk challenge I've seen.

Hopefully, you are liking the books you find.

I also have a steampunk shelf on Goodreads if anyone is looking for a few more ideas on what to read.

  33. This is one of those sub-genres I've been meaning to read more of. What a wonderful way to motivate myself to do it =)

  34. I can't wait to finally discover this genre, so many friends keep raving about how much fun it is!

  36. How did I miss this awesome challenge...I'm so in even though it's already April!

  37. I am so looking forward to this challenge, I know I'm starting a little late, but that just makes this all the more challenging.

  38. Good day! This post couldn't be written any better! Reading this post reminds me of my old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this article to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing!
