Vampire Academy Bites Big Screen!

We are THRILLED to announce that the Vampire Academy Series (well, the first book at least) will be turned into a movie!!
**Woot Woot** Who else is excited?!

"Transformers" producer Don Murphy is looking for the undead, teaming with Michael Preger ("Village of the Damned") on a feature version of Richelle Mead's six-part saga "Vampire Academy."

"Academy," set at St. Vladimir's Academy in the Montana forests, centers on Rose Hathaway, a 17-year-old female "dhampir" -- a half human/half vampire and a guardian of the Moroi race of peaceful mortal vampires. She must deal with the intricacies of the Moroi social order and the Strigoi, a race of bloodthirsty immortal vampires and predators of the Moroi.

"Academy" debuted on the New York Times Bestsellers list in 2007 and has been published in 34 countries. The sixth and final installment of the series is scheduled for release in December.

Murphy, whose credits also include "Natural Born Killers" and "Apt Pupil," asserts that a "Vampire Academy" pic will have mass appeal.

"The joy of these books is that in the wake of 'Twilight' they offer a chance to create a movie franchise that guys will want to see as well as girls," he said. "Michael and I plan on positioning the films as something both sexes will enjoy together, expanding the genre of sexy young vampires to a whole new audience. We are beginning discussions with studios immediately."

Preger's credits include the 2009 BBC1 miniseries "Day of the Triffids."

This is so exciting...and nerve-wrecking! You guys know that this is my favorite YA series which means the bar is set pretty high for the movie. Nine out of ten times, movie adaptations of books can range anywhere from 'tragic' to merely 'alright'...with few of them doing their book-counterparts justice. That is what worries me with Vampire Academy. Fans of this series know the complexity of the storyline & plot as well as the intensity & social dynamics of the characters. It is these things that, I think, will make filming this movie a challenge.

PS: Don Murphy, pleeeeeease make me proud!! I will not stand for any B-List teen celebs or Kristen Stewart wanna-be's casted for Rose or Lissa or well, any of the other characters, lol.

  1. Same here! And definitely, please, please do NOT put Miley Cyrus anywhere near this movie.
I really hope they do this book justice! That's definitely what it deserves, and nothing less.

  2. @ Alice:
OMG, I totally agree!! If Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, Chase Crawford or any of those wanna-be actors get anywhere NEAR this movie, I will fly to LA and start a protest, LOL!!

  3. LOL definitely let me know, cos I'd totally fly down there with you!!

  4. I don't they will be cast. Rose isn't soft. She is hardcore. I think they would cast unknowns for the main cast. I hope anyway.

  5. Why haven't I still read this series? Don't answer that! How exciting though.

  6. How way cool! Thanks for the news :)

  7. I hope they do these right. There are so many books turned movies that are just done wrong (cough, twilight, cough)

That's the official movie FB page. The producers ask questions to the fans on there and the fans can ask questions back. They are checking the page.

I did a post on my blog about the actors I think would fit for this movie.

  9. yikes the pressure is on...can you believe this s one series i havent touched...not even a page, im seriously gonna have to start reading now

    My Blog

  10. I agree with you, I definitely don't want to see sour face Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus or big head Selena Gomez, or any other Disney Channel Star on this movie. I haven't read the books yet, I just got the first three of the series a couple of weeks ago and I am really looking forward to read them.

  11. ohhhh WOW this is so exciting!!!!!! I can't believe it Isa we will definitely see this together

  12. Hey!
I just looove VA & although I only started the series in late January I've fin book 4 - only hours ago - & have read the 1st chapter of the next online!!!

I'm sooo worried I've been killing the internet just to let me know who's playing!!! Only now do I realise they've no one; but, the producers yet!!!

OMG OMG OMG!!! I hope it is book-perfection & not a made up script I'll be soooooo disapointed!

I'm thinking of writing to the author - by email - to ask what it'll be like - no changes, no too-fame celebs, just like da book!!! :D

Does anyone want to discuss what to write to her on hear with me???

Have you been on the official site? I'm going anywhere for info!

I've got tons of utube vid's on my site about it:

    Well seeya!!
