US vs. UK (Round 13.2)

UPDATE:
We originally posted this on 1/5/12 but we just found another cover version of the "Daughter of Smoke & Bone" that is totally attention worthy!

US hardcover (left) versus UK hardcover (right)

And now I give you the German Cover:

I actually think we're going to go with the UK version on this one and here's why: even though the overall design is much simpler, the type of feathers shown provide a "hint" about some of the characters in the story, the colors are soft & soothing and the font is just really pretty!

We like the US cover too but the design doesn't tell us much about the story and in the story, the blue is actually coming out of Karou's head, not face - lol.  Hmm, perhaps there's a deeper meaning there?

We had originally given out vote to the UK but after seeing Germany's version, we have to give our vote to that one. OMG, how friggin' pretty! I love that you see all of Karou's face (even if she looks a bit different from what I imagined), you see her blue hair, you see the angel wings.  The colors are perfection and the font is gorgeous!

GERMANY wins this round!!!
(I want this cover for my shelf *sigh*)

What do you guys think now?

  1. I think UK wins, though personally even the UK isn't my favorite cover ever. :D

But you know, with a lot of books lately (YA especially), the UK covers always seem to kick butt! Lol. Many times I've been seriously tempted to order the UK version for the prettier cover.

    Enjoy!

  2. I've got the UK cover - bought in Australia! I definitely prefer it, and if the feather mean something...ooh cannot wait to read now!

  4. OK... I haven't read the book yet (I know!), but here's how the covers read to me: the US version makes me think of Mardi Gras or a Gossip Girl masked ball, while the feathers on the UK version make me think American Indian. I actually think I prefer the US cover!

  5. UK. The US one feels awkward for some reason.

  6. Oh this is a tough one for me. Am I allowed to say tie? Okay then UK.

  7. I think I like the UK cover best, though the US cover definitely has some interest, with the brilliant blue of the feather mask contrasted against the greyscale background.

  8. I'm a fan of masquerade masks so I gotta go with the US cover.

  9. I was never a big fan of the US cover. The UK cover is just alright as well, but I like the colors better so it's UK for me in this one.

  11. I saw this and hands down I thought US and am really shocked that most people seem to be voting for the UK cover. I tend to find that one very boring. Hmm..

  12. This is one of the few times I am going with the US cover! Usually I am a fan of the UK editions but in this case it just isn't as brilliant.

  13. I really don't care for either version but if I had to pick I would pick the UK.
