SCANDALOUS DESIRES . . .

Amy Hardwick has one last Season to shake off her wallflower image and make a love match. If she can't, she'll set aside her dreams of romance and return home to a suitor who can provide security-if little else. What she doesn't count on is the inappropriate-and irresistible-attention lavished on her in a darkened library by rake extraordinaire Will "The Devil" Darcett.

DEVILISH DELIGHT

When Will is caught in a tryst with the ton's shyest miss, he knows he must offer for her hand. Yet Amy is not the shrinking violet she seems to be. Passion lies beneath her prim exterior and Will is eager to release it. But winning Amy isn't simply a matter of seduction; first, Will must convince her that he's mended his wicked ways.
We met Amy in the previous installments of Vicky's "How To Series" so we know that she's shy, sweet and possesses a secret talent for designing gowns.  However, in the face of her very last season in London, she is determined to shake off that wallflower image and make a love match.  If she doesn't, then she'll have to return to her home in the country and marry a man who has offered her security, but not love.

William Darcett is the younger brother of our hero in "How to Seduce a Scoundrel".  Known as "The Devil", he has earned his reputation as an unrepentant rake who lives to gamble and seduce women.  During a gathering one evening, they are caught in a compromising position that threatens Amy's impeccable reputation.  To Amy's chagrin, Will offers to marry her in an attempt to stop the London tongues from wagging.

Amy is truly one of the sweetest and most likable characters I've ever read.  She has an inner strength that didn't shine until now and it was delightful seeing her unfold. Will was actually quite the opposite.  Strong and crunchy on the outside with a soft, gooey center.  As the baby of a large family,  he was often dominated by his older siblings and so he sought to get away by traveling and carousing every chance he got. Together, they balanced each other beautifully.

Vicky has a wonderful talent for creating imagery.  You can very clearly imagine the gowns, the balls, and the settings as she paints them for you. The story was nicely paced and contained no shortage of humor.  One of my favorite characters is Will's Aunt Hester and she was responsible for several of the laugh out lout scenes! She is the aunt that speaks her mind without qualm for whether it's appropriate or not.  In addition to the comedic aspect of the story, Vicky also gives a very steamy romance.  There was always an attraction between Will and Amy, but it wasn't until Amy allowed herself to give into it that you realize how passionate she is.

This was a great installment to the series and I highly recommend it to those who like a side of humor with their heartwarming romances.

PS: I have to share this limerick that Kati from Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance wrote:

"There once was a rake named Will
Who rang up a large gambling bill
An heiress he must claim
To pay for his game
But in the end their secrets they must spill."
